# Show the real time and weather

> Let the map show the world as it is, night and rain included, instead of a clear midday.

By default the map shows a clear midday, whatever the time and weather in game, so it is always easy
to read. This page makes the map show the world as it is instead.

## Before you start

* The menu is installed and opens. See [Install the menu](https://docs.elementlabs.net/products/3d-pause-menu/installation.md).
* Expect the map to be harder to read at night, in fog and under cloud. That is the trade.

## Steps

**1. Unlock the time and weather, and drop the grade**

In `configs/map-world.jsonc`:

```jsonc theme={null}
{
  "namespace": "map-world",
  "configVersion": 1,
  "scope": "client",
  "values": {
    "alwaysMidday": false,
    "time": { "lock": false },
    "weather": { "lock": false },
    "hideClouds": false,
    "hideFog": false
  }
}
```

The menu's own colour grade keeps a midday light whatever the time, so it has to follow the
clock too: `alwaysMidday` at `false` does that and keeps the rest of the grade, so the map
still looks the same with a graphics mod. To drop the grade entirely and show the world exactly
as the player's game draws it, set `timecycleStrength` to `0.0` instead.

**2. Restart the menu**

```text theme={null}
restart element_3d_pausemenu
```

## Check that it worked

Open the map at night in game. The map is dark with the city's lights on, and the clouds and fog of
the current weather are visible over it.

## Somewhere in between

Each part works on its own:

| Want | Set |
| - | - |
| The real weather, but always midday | `weather.lock` to `false` only. |
| A fixed evening light | `time.hour` to `19`, with `alwaysMidday` at `false`. |
| Clear skies, but the real time | `time.lock` to `false` and `alwaysMidday` at `false`. |

Every setting is on [World](https://docs.elementlabs.net/products/3d-pause-menu/configuration/map-world.md).
